Data Recovery Software - Using HEX Editor

HEX Editor is a standard data viewer and editor that allows you to work in hexadecimal form. You can view the contents of any sector on the drive, or the contents of any file cluster.


To view the contents of a file:

  1. Open the HEX Editor using one of the methods below:
    • Right-click a file. From the context menu choose Open in Hex Editor.
    • Select a file. Select Tools in the Command Bar and click HEX Editor.
  2. After the HEX Editor is open, select a file cluster in File Clusters Chain to view its content (cluster zero is displayed by default)

To view the contents of any sector on a selected drive:

  1. Open the HEX Editor using one of the methods below:
    • In the Recovery Explorer tree, right-click a drive. From the context menu click Open in Hex Editor.
    • In the Recovery Explorer tree, select a drive. Select Tools in the Command Bar and click HEX Editor.

To edit data in HEX Editor:

  1. Open a file or sector in HEX Editor (see instructions above).
  2. From the HEX Editor Options menu, click Allow Edit Content.
  3. Make changes to the data.
  4. Click Save to apply the changes or Revert All to cancel all changes.

HEX Editor Data Inspector

The HEX Editor Data Inspector is a report area at the top of HEX Editor. It contains detailed information about data bits that you have selected in the data viewing area.


To hide or display Data Inspector in HEX Editor:

From the Hex Editor Options menu, select Data Inspector and click Show Data Inspector. If Data Inspector is displayed, you will hide it. If Data Inspector is hidden, you will display it.
