ARAX Disk Doctor Recovery Wizard
This wizard guides you through simple steps to find and recover your data.
The ARAX Disk Doctor Recovery Wizard guides you through three processes:
- Scanning for Data - Scan the surface of the selected logical drive to detect all files and folders.
- Searching for Recoverable Files and Folders - After a surface scan is complete, you must identify deleted files and folders, or to browse the Folder Tree and view all detected files (existing and deleted).
- Recovering Files - Select the files and folders and recover them.
To start this wizard, do one of the following:
- In the Wizards menu, select the Recover Files and Folders
item
- Select Wizards in the Command Bar and select the Recover Files and Folders item
When the ARAX Disk Doctor Recovery Wizard starts for the first time, the first screen describes the process. Clear the Show this dialog next time? check box to avoid seeing this screen the next time you run this wizard.
After the wizard starts, follow the steps below:
- Select Logical Drives to Scan - Select one or more logical drives where you think deleted data might be located. To select a logical drive, select the check box next to the drive name.
- Choose Scan Type - Choose the method for scanning the drive and then start the scan.
- Use Simple Drive Scan - This is the default method. Try this first to minimize recovery time.
- Use Advanced Drive Scan - If no deleted files and folders were detected using a Simple Drive Scan, try this option. An Advanced Drive Scan examines the disk's surface more thoroughly.
Click Scan Drives! to start the drive scan. A scanning progress screen appears. You can stop the scan process at any time by clicking Stop!
After the scan is complete, a confirmation message appears. Click Next.
- Search For Files and Folders -
In this step, you can specify file content patterns, the type of files to look for and other search options. You have access to all existing and deleted files on the disk. A search can help you want to narrow down the set of detected items by isolating the files you want to recover.
- Find what: Enter a text pattern, word or phrase in the file.
- File Type: Select a file type from the drop-down list.
- Recursive search in subdirectories – Explore through all subdirectories in each folder.
- Case sensitive search – Match file names with the same upper-case or lower-case letters.
- Search among deleted only – Find files that have been lost.
- Search among existing only – Identify damaged files that are still visible to Windows Explorer.
Click Next for more search criteria, or click Search! to start searching.
- Searching: Date Criteria - Specify a date range for the files (if known).
- Date Type – Select Accessed (Deleted), Created or Modified from the drop-down list.
- Date Range – Choose one of the radio buttons to narrow the search results to the specified dates.
Click Next for more search criteria, or click Search! to start searching.
- Searching: File Size Criteria - Specify file size range (if known) or select Any Size (Default Option).
Click Next for more search criteria, or Search! to start searching.
- Searching: File Attributes Criteria - Specify any file attributes (if known), for example, Read Only.
If you do not know any of the file attributes, select Any Attribute (Default Option).
Click Search!
- Confirm Search Criteria - Use this screen to confirm all search criteria.
- Click Back to go back and change search criteria.
- Click Search! A progress screen appears.
- Wait while search is in progress. You can stop the search at any time and browse the results up to that point.
- After the search is complete, a confirmation message appears. Click Next.
- Found Files and Folders - Besides viewing data in this table, you can also view the same data in the Search Results tab in Recovery Explorer. In the next few steps, you can review files, preview, and copy or recover files as needed. You can mark several files and folders to perform group operations such as data recovery.
- To recover or copy all files at once - click Select All.
- To recover some of the found files, select the check box next to the items you are interested in.
- After you have selected all files, click Next.
- Recovery Options - When the Data Recovery Wizard starts for the first time, the first screen describes the process. Clear the Show this dialog next time? check box to avoid seeing this screen the next time you run this wizard. In this window, you can choose some essential options for data recovery. These options are outlined below.
- Destination Path This is the default drive location for file recovery. You can type any existing path manually, or click Browse to navigate to a destination path using the standard Windows dialog. If you recover a single file, the default filename used is the original file name. You can change the file name as required. If you do not enter in a file name or if you only supply the target directory, the original filename is used.
- Select other recovery options in this window to configure your recovery process.
Note Regarding Recovery to the Same Drive:
We strongly recommend that you DO NOT recover data to the same drive where the original deleted files are located. If you do this, there is a chance that the process of writing the recovered files may overwrite the deleted files. As a result, the future attempts to recover these deleted files will be impossible. That is why this check box is CLEARED by default. If you have only one logical drive, we recommend that you map to a network drive (if you are on a network), or that you plug in a USB removable drive, or install a spare hard drive (if you have one). Select this check box only if you have no other logical drives accessible.
- Confirm Recovery Options - Review and confirm all options specified for the recovery process.
- Click Back to correct option settings if necessary.
- Click Recover! to start the data recovery process.
- Recovery is in progress - Wait while recovery is in progress.
- You can stop the process at any time by clicking Stop!
- When the process is complete, a confirmation message appears.
- At the end of the process, you have two options:
- Click Browse Destination Folder to go directly to the folder that contains your recovered files.
- Click Finish to close the wizard.
