Logical Drive Scan Wizard

The Logical Drive Scan process is an essential way of analyzing the surface of the drive. It collects directory structure information for further browsing.

The data recovery process starts with scanning the surface of a logical drive to find deleted files and folders. After a logical drive scan is complete, you will be able to browse the Folder Tree and view all detected files (existing and deleted). You can use the browser to select the files and folders you need to recover.

To start the Logical Drive Scan Wizard do one of the following:

  • Click the logical drive
  • From the Disk menu, click Scan
  • Right-click the logical drive and click Scan from the context menu

When the Logical Drive Scan Wizard starts for the first time, the first screen describes the process. Clear the Show this dialog next time? check box to avoid seeing this screen the next time you run this wizard.

To run the wizard, follow the steps below:

  1. Scan Type - Choose the method for scanning the drive and then start the scan.
    • Use Simple Drive Scan - This is the default method. Try this first to minimize data recovery time.
    • Use Advanced Drive Scan - If no deleted files and folders were detected using a Simple Drive Scan, try this option. An Advanced Drive Scan is more thorough in examining the disk's surface and finding deleted files.
    • Click Scan Drive to start the drive scan. A scanning progress screen appears. You can stop the scan process at any time by clicking Stop!
    • After the scan is complete, a confirmation message appears. Click Finish.
  2. After closing this page you can find your files and folders in the Recovery Explorer view by browsing through the folder tree to the place where deleted data was located.
Important !
Unbound files and folders are items that belong in folders, and the folders cannot be located. If Unbound items are detected while scanning, a special Unbound Items view is created and displayed to simplify browsing and searching.
You can use the Unbound Items view to browse through these files and folders and execute data recovery commands.
