Application Settings

You can change many of the settings that affect the application's behaviour in the Application Settings dialog box. To open the Application Settings dialog box, do one of the following:

  • In the Command Bar, select Tools and click Options
  • In the Tools menu, click Options...

A description of the three tabs in this page follows below.

General

Number of recovery attempts
Enter a number here. We recommend that you use no higher than 3 attempts. The default value is 1.
Write application log entries on disk
Allow ARAX Disk Doctor to write application logs directly to a text file in the program directory.
Check for latest software update at the application start
Change this setting to "Yes" to check for a newer version of this program each time you start ARAX Disk Doctor. The default value is "No".

Search & Recovery

Use recursive search in subdirectories
Search within the selected folder or drive and continue searching through all subfolders. The default value is "Yes". Change the value to "No" to search only the first level of the selected folder or drive.
Use search among deleted only
If this setting is "Yes" (the default), ARAX Disk Doctor searches through deleted files and folders only. Change the setting to "No" and ARAX Disk Doctor searches through existing and deleted files.
Case sensitive search
The default value is "No". ARAX Disk Doctor searches for all combinations of upper case and lower case characters in the search criteria. If you change this value to "Yes", ARAX Disk Doctor searches only for occurrences that match the combination of upper case and lower case characters that you enter.
Search among existing only
If the value is "No", ARAX Disk Doctor searches through both existing and deleted files. This is the default setting. If you change the setting to "Yes" the search will be applied through existing files and only and all deleted files will be ignored.
Default destination path for recovered items
The value here is used in prompts as the default path where recovered files and folders will be saved. The last path used for recovery is saved as the default path for further use. Click the ellipsis (...) to browse to a folder to save recovered items.
Silent directory creation
If this value is "Yes", directories and subdirectories are created without a confirmation dialog box. Change this value to "No" if you want to see a confirming dialog box before a new folder is created.
Allow recovering to the same drive (containing original data)
The default value for this option is "No". We do not recommend that you change this value. If this value is "Yes", you may write recovered files onto the same drive that contains the source data. This option is available only if you recover files and folders locally and you have no access to network drives or folders.
Overwrite existing items in destination folder
If this value is "Yes" (the default value), files and folders with the same name are overwritten during the recovery process. Change this value to "No" if you want a warning dialog to appear each time a file or a folder with the same name is about to be overwritten allowing you to change the file name.

Disk Images

Default path to store Disk Images
The value here is used in prompts as the default path where Disk Images will be saved. Click the ellipsis (...) to browse to a folder to save Disk Images.
Store image as chunks
If this value is "No" (the default value), then a Disk Image is saved as a single large file. Change this value to "Yes" to save a Disk Image in to small portions by allowing the file to be cut into connected chunks when being created.
